Lead Exposure Elimination Project

$19,000 • Category

The Lead Exposure Elimination Project (LEEP) works to eliminate lead from paint. It carried out a successful pilot project in Malawi, has begun work in several other countries, and is now trying to change the way we measure the problem of lead paint.

This grant, which includes an additional $326,296 for Dr. Jenna Forsyth and Prof. Adam Kiefer, supports the development of a new method for testing lead levels in paint using portable XRF devices. After Forsyth and Kiefer validate the method at their respective universities, the LEEP team will put it to the test in at least one country — working with the government, training local personnel, and sampling local paint.
