Conduct nationally representative surveys of blood lead levels in at least four countries that currently lack solid data.
The Plan
The Lead Exposure Action Fund supports work that could transform the way we measure lead exposure, drastically reduce contamination in many of the most common sources (like paint and spices), and encourage governments to take action on a massive scale.
Our three strategic pillars
We’re focusing on three key facets of lead elimination, with specific targets for what our grantees will achieve.
Measurement
To eliminate lead exposure, we need to understand it. We support projects that collect critical data on the locations and prevalence of exposure from many different sources.
Mitigation
We support projects aimed at drastically reducing lead exposure from the most urgent and addressable sources.
Mainstreaming
Eliminating lead exposure will be a long and costly battle. To win it, the world will need to set up consistent funding streams to support this work for many years to come.
By the end of 2027, our grantees will:

These aren’t best-case scenarios — they’re what we expect. Each number above represents the median outcome we hope to achieve by the end of 2027 if we succeed in raising $100 million. If we raise money beyond that, we’ll move the targets higher.
A global scope
We make grants across the world, funding the best opportunities we can find wherever they arise. The vast majority of our funding goes toward work in low- and middle-income countries, where the burden of lead exposure is greater and there are fewer resources available to address it. And because countries vary in which sources cause the greatest burden, we aim to target the most important sources in each country.
Our plan for the future
So far, we’ve raised [insert launch total], and we’re aiming to reach $150 million — which would cover grantmaking through the end of 2027.
For the next few years, we plan to make a continual stream of new grants, and to collect information from our grantees to track progress toward our targets.
